David Hilliard
-Born in 1964 (50 years old)
-From Massachusetts
-Stitches together several photographs in either a horizontal or vertical layout
-Sometimes forms a panoramic, sometimes photos are related only by setting
-Quote from his website: "For me, the construction of panoramic photographs, comprised of various single images, acts as a visual language. Focal planes shift, panel by panel. This sequencing of photographs and shifting of focal planes allows me the luxury of guiding the viewer across the photograph, directing their eye; an effect which could not be achieved through a single image."
-Works with color
-Mixes depth of field to create interesting effects
-Has a concern for the naked form
I find Hilliard's experiments with depth of field interesting. He doesn't keep the DOF consistent or relative within his series of images; instead, he changes the f-stop in subtle ways that are noticed, but not necessarily acknowledged, by the eye as it travels across his images. Augmenting this is Hilliard's inventive points of view. The result is that the viewer often feels as if they are traveling with the camera, not looking at an image. He also has a rich attention to combining color and light in beautiful ways that both eases the eye and intrigues the viewer.
